Global disability summit

The UK government’s Department for International Development (DFID) has announced it will host a global disability summit in July 2018.

Why’s this a big deal?

The UK government has committed to being a global leader on disability, and the summit gives an opportunity to demonstrate this leadership. It will also be a chance to join with other countries to see the rights of people with disabilities upheld, in line with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the Global Sustainable Development Goals.

Significant progress on disability-inclusive development has already been made with the publication of the UK’s Disability Framework (launched in 2014) and the summit is another important step in proving that the UK government is committed to global development that leaves no one behind.
